neoface 2

  • James 'PJ' Noxon
  • midibim.fremont@gmail.com
  • The neoface 2: Bluetooth MIDI transceiver/Voltage MIDI convertor for effect pedals, providing WIDI and MIDI input, and 2 MIDI outputs in a hand-made bamboo case.

  • The Bluetooth transceiver implements standard MIDI over BLE protocol, sometimes called WIDI (for Wireless MIDI). The WIDI app can be downloaded from the Google Play store or Apple App store in order to control settings, but in many cases this is not necessary because the WIDI adaptor will automatically connect to other Bluetooth MIDI devices. The neoface 2 has three MIDI jacks: one optoisolated MIDI input, and two 5v MIDI outputs. There are two switches on neoface 2: one selects the source from either the MIDI input jack or the WIDI receiver (the middle position mutes the WIDI/MIDI input signals while still providing power from the middle MIDI jack), the other switch controls the out/thru MIDI jack. The middle MIDI output jack provides the selected source (either WIDI input or MIDI input), which is also converted to Voltage MIDI and connects to the effects pedal's control jack input. The out/thru MIDI jack provides either the MIDI out converted from the Voltage MIDI output coming from the processor inside the effects pedal (which copies the received MIDI input and adds some controller messages), or the MIDI signal from the selected source (a bit accurate copy of the MIDI/WIDI input signal without the inherent delay from passing though the processor), or Power Only (the output provides power to any connected device while muting all MIDI message transmission). The MIDI input jack is permanently routed to the WIDI transceiver's input and these signals are sent out via Bluetooth MIDI.

    About effect pedals with Voltage MIDI
    Alexander Neo series effect pedals offer many control capabilities including a complete MIDI implementation. The Neo can store 16 patch memories, but only 4 can be accessed by a long hold on the bypass button. One limitation of their MIDI implementation on Alexander Neo pedals (also on some effect pedals from Meris, Disaster Area, Chase Bliss, Empress and others) comes from the small space available for the control jack. Instead of standard MIDI 5-pin DIN jacks, the control input is on a 1/4" TRS jack. Unlike the standardized MIDI TRS jack (which come in two flavors: Type A and Type B), some effect pedals implement 'voltage MIDI' which is easier to implement than standard MIDI, requires fewer expensive components, but this interface is less standardized. Voltage MIDI requires a special adapter like neoface to convert from standard MIDI (opto-isolated current loop signals) to the 3.3 volt unbalanced 'voltage MIDI' and from 'voltage MIDI' back to standard MIDI. Since Voltage MIDI is a low voltage unbalanced signal, and not opto-isolated, the length of cables carrying the signal are very limited. But in a situation like a pedal board this is not likely to cause any problems as long as the control cables are only a few inches long.

  • The technology for keyboards and synthesizers keeps advancing and is mature, while the technology for guitar and bass players has recently been exploding. Yet there seems to be a divide, so why should guitar players have all the fun? Custom Electronic division of midibim has produced neoface and neoface 2 to cross this divide. Now high technology pedals can be incorporated into keyboard players arsenal more easily, and guitar players can incorporate a wider variety of tools and more wireless options too.

  • I use these devices to incorporate high technology pedals into my performances on bass guitar and also on keytar, but who knows what other clever musicians might discover with these new tools?

  • Standard MIDI using 5 pin DIN connectors has been available for decades, but newer types of MIDI are coming along like TRS MIDI Type A and Type B, Voltage MIDI, and Bluetooth MIDI. midibim devices enable interconnections with the different physical characteristics possible.

  • I have produced these products and they are available now on eBay.

  • Once I retire from my duty as a SEIU Union Chief Steward and technician at the transit district (in a few months), I will begin production on my top secret project - an amplified speaker system specifically for keyboard players! Why should guitar players have all the fun?

SoulPedal® Board

  • John DAmours
  • john@soulpedal.com
  • SoulPedal® SP3 is our Next Gen Wireless Insole with Haptics and a new "SoulPedal® Board" App for Ease of Setup.

    Made in USA

  • Short descripton? Too late. Recommend reviewing my web animation first, then return here.

    The latest App is solid, focusing on fast and easy Setup (image upload shows some of the MIDI functions).

    SP3 Pedal adds Haptics with unique vibration patterns, also for Ease-of-Use. It is excellent and borderline necessary for full emersion.

    Our latest SoulPedal® Board App configures foot gestures (angle limits, timing, complexity etc...) along with a Pressure Sensor profile. Originally for the Guitarist who loves a great Wah anywhere on stage (demo'd at NAMM '23 Booth) this system has evolved into an interesting option for any performing artist including DJs, Live Vocalist, and why not Magicians. Literally how the crowd sees this new tech, or doesn't see it at all, is completely up to the user to define, as I've seen both used this way.

    The App also simplifies MIDI setup while providing tools and feedback to help understand the MIDI language, and possibly daring them to edit custom MIDI Controls over time. Help now includes a Decimal Hex converter and provides the actual Hex MIDI strings real-time on screen as you set the options. The mouse-over hints are also detailed and elaborate.

    Notice this MIDI Table format has no "drill-down" popups or pages from the main screen. All setup is through this highly interactive table with icons that help to describe the setup at a glance. Columns Drag and Drop positions, LED colors match live use. This example is for a Headrush Looper Setup that actually works even while sitting and casually switching. These demos are also coming soon.

  • https://www.soulpedal.com/
  • https://youtu.be/_jWHg9LWtl8
  • 1. Control methods that invite any artist to move and groove on stage in a number of creative ways,
    hopefully informing their playing style for an original show.
    2. Ease of Use for non-MIDI users (features available today, and quite new for this year):
    - Single page MIDI Configuration with an upgraded interactive Table.
    - Handy Hex/Dec Converter on-screen, and can alternate between Easy & Custom MIDI.
    - See the actual MIDI Hex byes real-time as you edit to learn something about MIDI.
    3. Press the Box Pad to select your stored MIDI command strings live, send with exact timing using a
    simple gesture (also new).
    4. Simple color association with Haptic patterns makes this UX even easier to use (Haptics are fully
    tested).
    5. Several new features on the Pedal config side as well.

  • Artists will learn how SoulPedal® and MIDI integration can simplify their rig and enhance their shows by either hiding pedalboard control in stealth mode, or by showing off some cool tech of your own with some novel Human Expression on stage. I'm personally interested to continue on this journey through the most creative talent I can find.

    SoulPedal® provides unique Artistic control and timing without distracting the crowd fubling for footswitch under full stage lights. These latest improvements provide sublties of human motion for physical emphasis on stage, all while keeping the smallest equipment footprint in some cases. The pedals are light and comfortable, S-M-L, Left or Right foot, and might even make you look just a little bit taller.

  • SoulPedal® has MIDI Out (old school, no MIDI In). Either Foot Pressure or Foot Angle can be used to Modulate Effects, including Virtual MIDI CC Pedals, Switches, Knobs, and PC Toggles. Intuitively controlled, and consistent. It neatly lets the user define their own depth and complexity.

    The App simplifies configuration of a Virtual Pedalboard that can mirror or extend functionality remotely, potentially downsize if that's important. It will control most Multi-Effects Processors, DAWs, and Effects having a MIDI In.

    For speed, the software was written in pure C Embedded, with very fast RF Packet delivery at 915 MHz (or 868 MHz, but not CE yet). This software is mature with auto notification of wireless firmware updates, xml file storage. It's a real playground and can't wait to see new ways applied.

  • 1. Expand focus from Guitar effects into MIDI new use cases (this).
    2. Offer a low-cost Upgrade, backward compatible with today's system (summer).
    3. Deeply engage with Superusers, add some Social on X, and more demo's.
    4. Partner where opportunities are ripe, including 3rd party licensing or hardware integration.
    5. Patented and still very interested in finding the right user for a new style of artist.

  • Grow with demand. Increased MU on existing Semi-automated equipment in-house, cost cutting on Design and Production, use China PCB assy with the latest 2-layer design (vs 4) and with Haptics. Eventually train Optimus in 2025 to fully automate production.

    That's one approach, but I'm all ears.
    Cheers!

SC-1 MIDI Controller

  • Theodore J Pillera
  • info@nichedevices.com
  • Imagine a midi device that compliments the full functionality of your equipment while providing total synchronization with with your gig set-list.

  • First some background…in a live performance setting musicians are required to be able to change effects/patches/presets on keyboards, multi-effects processors, modelling amps, etc. quickly and effectively between songs. A major shortcoming of products in this market is that most are not designed to “easily” facilitate live performance in this way or to even access the full capability of the product during live performance.

    The SC-1 is a stand-alone MIDI controller designed to bridge the live-performance gap. It is unlike any other stand-alone or a “built-in” solution currently available on the market in both its capabilities and ease of use. By running an application program on your PC that uses your set-list and a user-defined preset list, a resultant “ordered-pair” file is generated and downloaded via WiFi to the SC-1 hardware, and in a matter of seconds, you’re set up and ready to perform your gig with all of your presets in play-list order.

    With this product you will…
    • Always be ready to start/perform the next song…
    • Access all available presets stored anywhere in your gear…
    • Always access the correct preset for the song…

    Features:
    • Store multiple lists with up to 128 songs each…
    • Complete stand-alone operation…
    • Control multiple midi devices…
    • Multiple MIDI CC and PC change capability per patch…

  • https://www.nichedevices.com/
  • https://youtu.be/Pi23blAWjfE?si=N3fSVN4PL4MY4KDp
  • I keep a spreadsheet preset list which maps MIDI program change to preset. For each new gig set-list I run an application (PC/ MAC) which downloads a (.json) file to the SC-1 (my product). The SC-1 then has all the songs for the night in order and I can step through them with a button push. It would be literally impossible to use my gear (the Headrush MX5), or any other similar device for live performance otherwise as we go from song to song in a second or two and finding the next MX5 preset would be awkward at best. I am not aware of any other MIDI device on the market that uses this easy setup method and has the capability of the SC-1.

  • I am an electrical engineer/ programmer and musician and over the years have seen a need for a device that makes live performance easier, or even possible, using keyboards and/or multi-effects processors. I've owned many different devices that I realized could have used a companion controller to bring out the full capability of the gear and make it easier to use. So I developed one and am using it currently along with my Headrush MX5 for all of my live shows.

  • The SC-1 has a MIDI 1.0 OUT port which connects to MIDI IN on any gear (keyboards, guitar effects processors, modelling amps, drum machines, etc.) with MIDI capability. The SC-1 can be set up to control multiple devices set to different addresses. This is accomplished by running MIDI THRU from one device to MIDI IN on the next, and so on.

  • I am interested to partner with manufacturers of midi-controlled gear or Bluetooth applications to incorporate our technology as a stand-alone device or built-in addition to an existing product line.

  • I currently have a "near production ready" solution, including a complete mechanical design, electrical design, application software, and product firmware. I am looking for an interested partner to bring this product to market. I am 100% confident that this MIDI product fills a void in the MIDI music equipment industry marketplace, it just needs visibility of those musicians and manufacturers who have been looking for a solution to enhance their product capabilities and facilitate their live performance experience.

Univer Inter

  • Noise Engineering
  • kris@noiseengineering.us
  • Univer Inter is an MPE-compatible 8-output MIDI-to-CV converter and USB MIDI interface for Eurorack synthesizers.

  • Univer Inter is an 8-output MIDI-to-CV converter designed for use with Eurorack synthesizers. Its outputs can be configured in a huge variety of ways, making it an excellent way to control gear with MIDI devices. Monophonic, polyphonic, and MPE note outputs can be configured depending on the voices in a user’s system, and sync outputs can also be used to control sequencers and effects that require analog clock and reset signals. If eight outputs arent’ enough, two Univer Inters can be chained through their front-panel MIDI ports. Univer Inter can be easily configured with the simple and intuitive Noise Engineering Customer Portal web interface via a USB connection.

  • https://noiseengineering.us/products/univer-inter?color=black
  • https://youtu.be/pPq-m6smOnY?si=HkPjvLXzA81VnXLH
  • Due to its highly configurable outputs, Univer Inter can interface virtually any MIDI device with analog hardware, whether it be as a MIDI clock translator to keep sequencers of different resolution in sync and phase, controlling multiple voices with expressive MPE control, or simply playing a nice melody from a sequencer on a monosynth. While other MIDI-to-CV Eurorack modules exist, Univer Inter is both the most flexible and the easiest to configure.

    Voltage-controlled synthesizers have a variety of control needs when it comes to playing notes. For timing control, some need gate signals the length of a desired note; others need short triggers to avoid unwanted artifacts. Univer Inter can provide either of these signals, as well as variable voltage gate signals to provide velocity control on modules that can utilize such signals. Univer Inter’s pitch CV outputs have an adjustable pitch bend range, and a note and octave start offset – Eurorack does not have a standardized note standard, so this makes it easy to unify multiple synth voices from different manufacturers. Velocity, release velocity, and aftertouch options add dynamic options to patches for those who want to use expressive MIDI controllers with their synths.
    Note outputs are configurable to be monophonic or polyphonic (with automatic note distribution), or respond to MPE controllers, further expanding the possibilities for sequencing and control.

    Since CC messages are a common output for a variety of controllers, Univer Inter can translate CC messages to voltage. Both standard and 14-bit MSB/LSB messages can be configured for use on any outputs.

    The clock and reset needs of different hardware sequencers varies greatly, so Univer Inter has a huge variety of output options to accommodate any device with an analog clock input. Divisions from 24 PPQN to 4 PPQN solve the needs of most devices, and musical divisions from 32nd notes all the way through whole notes allow for creative sequencing options as well.
    Keeping sequencers in phase is straightforward, too: triggers can be generated from MIDI start, stop, and continue to allow for transport and reset control. A DIN-sync style run gate can also be generated, allowing for MIDI timing control of DIN sync devices via adapter cables.

    All outputs have a variable output delay from 0ms to 25ms to compensate for any latency issues that may occur in other devices.

  • Univer Inter brings gear together in ways that artists may not have thought possible: with its plethora of connections, a user can simultaneously connect a hardware MIDI controller, a DAW, and multiple voltage-controlled devices to the Univer Inter, then configure the device to translate signals back and forth however suits their workflow best. One of our favorite uses we’ve seen has been using the Roland Aerophone Pro as a MIDI controller to send breath out to control a modular synthesizer ( https://youtu.be/jkMMAuse5HA?si=oouYRHjMhTDXFzrw&t=1099 ).

  • Univer Inter features a USB B port as well as a TRS MIDI in jack, and a configurable TRS out or thru jack. It can be used with any USB host device, such as a computer or a tablet, and is compatible with almost any MIDI software like a DAW or other software controller. It can also connect to any other DIN/TRS MIDI devices, and send their MIDI signals to software via USB, or translate messages from MIDI hardware to voltages on its configurable outputs.

  • Univer Inter was conceived of before the pandemic depressed parts availability. Although we had a working prototype by 2020, we were unable to put it into production until we were able to get the parts required to build it. We released it in June 2023, with subsequent configuration website updates.

    Univer Inter is currently available through the Noise Engineering website, as well as our network of authorized retailers, with shops in Asia, Europe, North and South America, and Australia.

  • We have several feature updates in the works. A firmware update coming this year will allow rear-panel chaining of Univer Inters. We also plan to incorporate support for alternate tunings, and add further features to the configuration interface.

DigiBrass Tilt – MIDI Wind Controller

  • DigiBrass
  • Dave@DigiBrass.com
  • The DigiBrass Tilt is the most natural translation of trumpet play into MIDI.
    Breath, fingerings, articulation, vibrato… all natural.
    Embouchure… smoothly replaced with gentle tilt.

  • DigiBrass has long focused on bringing trumpet playing into digital music.
    The Tilt looks, feels, and plays like a trumpet, with one exception: the embouchure. This most challenging part of trumpet playing is replaced with tilting left and right. With that, the world of MIDI play is at your fingertips.

  • https://digibrass.com
  • https://youtu.be/vaLD6KYxdwo?si=_ZP53jMOahzGcwI2
  • The Tilt stands alone in its familiarity to traditional trumpet players, with its look, positioning, and play.
    It also stands alone in replacing embouchure with a smooth, continuous control, rather than a step-wise octave controller.

  • The expressive range is huge, invoking tears (a lyrical jazz standard played by a pro) to laughter (a player's 3-year old son making fart sounds 2 octaves below the Tuba range).

    Of course, MIDI is the magic... and the Tilt makes that magic available to trumpet players.

  • The Tilt includes USB and BLE MIDI standard.

  • The Tilt went to market in June 2022.
    Version 2 of the Tilt will be released in June 2024.

    The Tilt is sold via E-commerce through DigiBrass.com.

  • We believe in expanding play for brass players. There's plenty of good work to do.

    We're on it with continued efforts to increase the number of players, and most importantly, the hours played by players - with a stream of product improvements, training, and feedback to players.

  • jeff@oaktone.com
  • The Oakboard Floor Vista MIDI foot controller lets performers see and control the setlist on their playback computer with minimal distraction to the performance.

  • The Oakboard Floor Vista is a first-of-its-kind setlist MIDI foot controller used by musicians who perform with a show computer. Simply create your setlist in a compatible software application on your show computer and map the controls accordingly. The Floor Vista will see the setlist, three songs at a time, allowing the user to see which song they are launching and controlling at a glance. Onstage musicians can control the show with subtle foot presses, without needing to be looking at an onstage computer screen.

  • https://www.oaktone.com/collections/hardware/products/oakboard-vista
  • Playback techs are already a ubiquitous backstage fixture for the world's biggest touring artists. Bands who perform without a traveling tech, or who simply would like to start and stop their own songs on stage, consequently need to have a large computer screen on stage and in their line of sight. The US patent pending Oakboard Floor Vista is a stompbox-sized device that uses MIDI system exclusive communication to update a small yet bright OLED screen, making the process of onstage show control a much more discreet endeavor.

  • The Oakbaord Floor Vista is already being used in live performances and stage shows around the world to help artists who want more independent control cue up their setlists. Users report that it frees them to focus on the experience of the music instead of their computers.

  • The Oakboard Floor Vista relies on standard MIDI 1.0 protocol messages over a USB cable to connect to a host computer.

  • I am already producing the Oakboard Floor Vista in limited quantities of up to 200 units at a time. My company will produce a new design of this product in the coming months that will allow use of MIDI 2.0 and further separate this product from others in the category.

  • The moniker of my company is Stage Tools for Story Tellers. We manufacture hardware, produce software, and create content that helps users experience "painless playback." I am currently working with 3 different businesses to expand the use of the Floor Vista with other software playback solutions. I am also working on updated versions of my hardware and designing new devices that continue to help our Oaktone's thrive in a live setting.

midiBeam V2 Wireless MIDI Interface

  • Panda-Audio Ltd.
  • info@panda-audio.com
  • A pair of devices connecting wirelessly: TX02 transmitter (powered by 2 AAA batteries) and RX02 receiver (powered by USB). MIDI output over DIN and USB.

  • The midiBeam V2 wireless MIDI interface connects your MIDI instrument (or any MIDI source) to your synthesizer or computer through radio, at the 2.4GHz frequency range, without any cable connection. There are at least two typical applications where it has obvious advantages:
    1. If you have a battery powered mobile MIDI instrument you will be free to move around the stage without any cable if you use midiBeam. You can use a mobile keyboard hanging in your neck from Roland, Casio, etc., or a wind controller, like the AKAI EWI 4000s or the Yamaha WX5.
    2. If you are fed up with the many cables hanging around in your studio, you can reduce the number of cables if you use midiBeam. Unlike other wireless MIDI solutions midiBeam is a very cost efficient replacement for a MIDI cable, while the delay latency is perfectly negligible, with 0.3 msec, about 10% of other wireless solutions.
    When you turn on both TX02 and RX02 if the two devices are not paired (“Pairing” means tuning them to a common radio channel), then both of them will blink slowly, with a short blink. The units are paired to a unique common radio channel by a simple press of the button on either unit. This means that they allocated one of 76 radio channels for themselves in the 2.4 GHz range where midiBeam operates.
    You can start to play your keyboard, and whatever you send into the MIDI IN of TX02 (the DIN plug hanging on a short cable), will appear on the DIN and USB outputs of RX02. Both devices will store their channel settings in permanent memory, so when you turn them on next time they will remember on each other. During the pairing process midiBeam will automatically avoid radio channels with activity from other devices, also from other pairs of midiBeam.

    The most important advantages of midiBeam V2 Wireless are:
    1. Very reliable wireless MIDI connection.
    2. Long distance range, LOS up to 350 meters.
    3. Extremely low latency, 0.38 milliseconds.
    4. Automatic pairing of TX and RX devices.
    5. Intelligent channel search avoiding busy channels in the 2.4 GHz range.
    6. Low power consumption of the TX device, 65 hours with two AAA batteries.
    7. Free software upgrades available.
    8. RX can be used as a class compliant MIDI interface.

  • https://www.panda-audio.com/midibeamv2wireless
  • 1. Proprietary radio protocol for extremely low latency, 0.38 milliseconds.
    2. Automatic pairing of TX and RX devices.
    3. Intelligent channel search avoiding busy channels in the 2.4 GHz range.
    4. Transmitter is turned on only for the minimal time of radio transmission, thus low power consumption of TX device, 65 hours with two AAA batteries.
    5. RX can be used as a class compliant MIDI interface.

  • 1. An Italian opera production, where a keyboard was played on a boat in a lake, and the transmitted MIDI signal was driving synthesizers on shore.
    2. In the London theatre production “Ocean At The End Of The Lane” there is a 4 meter high, huge scary spider-like puppet with 5 legs. With membrane switch keypad contacts under each foot the sensors were connected to a midiBeam 4Control interface box, and the MIDI signals were transmitted by midiBeam V2 Wireless to the off-stage technicians. Every step of the giant generated a unique bomb-like sound.

  • It connects to every possible MIDI device, replacing a MIDI cable with wireless connection. Additionally, the RX02 functions as a class-compliant MIDI interface.

  • Potential customers are highly motivated by seeing prominent users like Herbie Hancock and the late Chick Corea.

  • The next product will be midiBeam Wireless USB, serving as a USB host for small portable instruments that do not have DIN MIDI, and must be supplied through USB.

midiBeam 4Control USB Interface & MIDI Expression/Footswitch Controller

  • Panda-Audio Ltd.
  • info@panda-audio.com
  • The 4Control has two stereo jack socket inputs for expression pedals and/or footswitches. Data from these can be merged into the MIDI stream.

  • The 4Control configures itself into Standalone Mode if it is powered from a mains adapter; alternatively, it configures itself into Interface Mode if it is powered from a computer. If it is in Interface Mode, you can change it to Standalone Mode with a press of a button.

    Standalone Mode:
    In this mode, messages from any connected pedals or switches will be passed to the DIN
    MIDI OUT. Likewise, messages from any connected instrument(s) coming in via the DIN
    MIDI IN will be passed to the DIN MIDI OUT.
    This mode can be used to add a MIDI controller to any MIDI instrument, such as a keyboard
    which lacks its own modulation and pitch bend wheels.

    Interface Mode:
    In this mode, 4Control functions as a class-compliant USB-to-MIDI interface, while
    additionally serving the two Jacks.
    Messages from the computer’s USB MIDI OUT will be passed to the midiBeam 4Control’s
    DIN MIDI OUT. Messages from your instrument(s) connected to the midiBeam 4Control’s
    DIN MIDI IN will be sent to the computer’s USB MIDI IN.
    Furthermore, messages from any expression pedals and switches connected to midiBeam
    4Control’s two Jack sockets will also be sent to the computer’s USB MIDI IN.

    The 4Control must be configured with the free available PC or MAC editor. Once set up with the editor, settings are stored permanently.

    The Global Tab of the editor allows to select the functionality of the two jacks separately. You can select if a jack will be used for an expression pedal, or for 1 or 2 footswitches. Furthermore, if expression pedal is selected, then the polarity of the jack can be decided, as unfortunately expression pedals of different manufacturers use different polarities.

    The Jack1/2 Pedal Tab allows the selection of a MIDI Channel and a Mode for the expression pedal. The Mode can be Controller, Aftertouch, and Pitch Bend. The CC number can be selected, and a Minimum and Maximum value can be set for the two end positions of the pedal. Also, on this page the used MIDI range (0…127) can be calibrated to the actual voltage range coming out from the pedal.
    The Jack 1/2 Switch Tab page can be used to set up 4Control for switch pedals. Two switches, A and B can be connected to the Tip and Ring of the jack. Each can be assigned to a separate MIDI channel, and several parameters assigned to the switches can be edited.
    A switch can be set to Momentary or Latching Operation. In Momentary Operation it is sending one MIDI value when it is pressed, and another one when it is released. In Latching Operation it alternates between two values on subsequent presses.
    Each switch can be set to one of the following Modes:
    Control (0...127);
    Note On / Note Off;
    Start / Stop;
    Program Change;
    Special Control (alternating between two user defined values);
    Pedal (controlling the CC number sent from the pedal connected to the other jack);

  • https://www.panda-audio.com/midibeam4control
  • 1. Very flexible assignment possibilities in the editor;
    2. Unique application when switch pedal determines the functionality of the expression pedal

  • In the London theatre production “Ocean At The End Of The Lane” there is a 4 meter high, huge scary spider-like puppet with 5 legs. With membrane switch keypad contacts under each foot the sensors were connected to a midiBeam 4Control interface box, and the MIDI signals were transmitted by midiBeam V2 Wireless to the off-stage technicians. Every step of the giant generated a unique bomb-like sound.

  • It connects to every possible MIDI device, inserting control information from expression pedals and footswitches into a MIDI stream. Additionally, it functions as a class-compliant MIDI interface.

  • Users of the Future Impact bass synthesizer can exploit the advantages of midiBeam 4Control, using it to connect a Program Down pedal, a Sustain pedal, a VCF modulation expression pedal, or a remote control for any arbitrary MIDI function.

  • A board with four potentiometers, hiding two 4Controls in order to provide a device for live control of MIDI parameters.

Future Impact V4 Bass & Guitar Synthesizer and Analog Modelling MIDI Synthesizer Expander

  • Panda-Audio Ltd.
  • info@panda-audio.com
  • A comprehensive 4-oscillator monosynth and effects pedal, triggered by audio (with ultra-low latency) or MIDI, which can also drive external synths.

  • Inspired by enthusiastic members of the Talkbass forum, the original designer of the Akai Deep Impact, Andras Szalay, designed an entirely new and vastly-improved bass synthesizer pedal in late 2015. Thus the Future Impact I. was born.
    From there, the FI’s popularity and reputation grew. It is used by notable players such as Chris Wolstenholme of Muse, Doug Wimbish of Living Colour and The Rolling Stones, Bootsy Collins, Mohini Dey, Etienne M’Bappe and Dub FX.
    To trigger the FI4’s analog modeling synthesizer* via audio input from any pitched instrument, select Instrument Mode bSS (Bass) or Gtr (Guitar). If your instrument is neither of these, choose whichever option best fits its pitch range. To trigger via MIDI, select Snt (Synth) or EUI (EWI). In any Instrument Mode you can also trigger an external analog synth via the 1V/Octave CV and Gate outputs using an optional adapter cable. (*More synthesizer models and features to come in free future updates.)
    The 99 presets can all be accessed directly and easily on the pedal using the footswitches; they can also be accessed via an external midi controller. Every preset can be edited, or replaced by the user using the PC or MAC editor, connected through MIDI.
    The synthesizer in the FI4 requires an input of cleanly-played monophonic notes for optimal pitch tracking performance.
    The pitch detection algorithm is used also to drive a very accurate tuner, which mutes the audio during the time of tuning.
    The most important 9 parameters which are used in sound shaping are accessible via the onboard controls, with their full ranges; these are:

    Filter envelope attack time;
    Filter envelope decay time;
    Filter envelope depth;
    Filter cutoff;
    Filter resonance;
    Dynamics (envelope follower/MIDI note velocity amount) to filter cutoff;
    Dry/wet balance;
    Overall level;
    Effects level.

    An editor for PC and MAC is available for creating and archieving sounds very interactively.
    Deeper parameters are controllable via MIDI, with pre-mapped / standard assignments for filter cutoff, volume, octave switching, etc. A cloud-based preset sharing library is available with a huge number of presets provided by users.

    6. 4 Flexi modules allow arbitrary cross-modulation of parameters in a very intuitive way.
    7. In spite of the small internal memory of the processor a unique data compression method allows long delay effect time, compressing five 32 bits audio data into one 64 bit double word.
    8. Extremely low noise performance: two Codec input channels driven at different audio levels and two output channels driven differentially provide 10dB S/N improvement.
    9. New operating system of V4 allows seamless switching between 4 application programs.
    10. CV and Gate outputs can be used to drive 1V/octave analog synthesizers.
    11. Free software updating with different applications.
    12. Full ADSR envelope, with Release independent of the release of the guitar sound, sustaining the last valid intentional pitch.

  • Perfect response with Mohini Dey’s breathtaking playing technique.

  • MIDI IN: Improved stage performance through external control: expression pedal, program down, sustain switch.
    MIDI OUT: Driving external synthesizers from the next software version

  • Potential customers are highly motivated by seeing prominent users like Bootsy Collins, Mohini Dey, and Etienne M’Bappe.

  • The next software version will have pitch to MIDI conversion additionally to the current features; it will also implement the author’s patented ultrafast neural net based pitch recognition algorithm.
    The operational system of the V4 software allows seamless switching between four separate application programs. Currently only two of these slots are used, next applications coming with FM synthesis, sample replay or multi effect section.

CMPSR

  • Digit Music
  • sitew@digitmusic.co.uk
  • Fusing gaming design with musical capabilities, CMPSR is an expressive musical interface that enables everyone to play beats, chords and melodies with ease.

  • CMPSR is an open tuned musical playing interface which can be utilised in any 2d or 3d grid. Our first product, CMPSR:Move, operates using a joystick to send MIDI notes and CC information over bluetooth or USB-C. It has 8 LED pads which change how the notes are being played (Sustain, chord on/off, extensions, inversions, accidentals)
    CMPSR: Swipe is our new app which uses the same playing interface on a 2d touch screen and allows for a freemium entry point to our system. The app has inbuilt sounds and can send inter-app MIDI as well as sending external MIDI to other apps and DAWs. You can connect to it with CMPSR: Move or any traditional console controller meaning a PS5 controller or similar becomes highly expressive and musical.

  • https://digitmusic.co.uk/cmpsr-info/
  • https://youtu.be/ec02QM0ze9k
  • The innovation in our design lies in the unique mapping that can turn any 2d or 3d grid into a highly expressive musical interface. Our simple musical mapping works straight out of the box and can be applied to multiple sound sources and interface types. Initially designed for use with a joystick (CMPSR: Move) we now have an app which takes the interface to a 2d touch screen device (CMPSR: Swipe) and can be played using one finger or head tracking (CMPSR: Blink)
    The inclusive design principles we use throughout our products mean they can be used by as many people as possible, regardless of their personal circumstances. Haptics enable visually impaired users to navigate the interface, haptic feedback support d/Deaf and hard of hearing users, and our self imposed design limitation of ‘one finger, one click’ means every function is available to those with limited dexterity or upper limb difference.
    The mapping works straight out of the box so the ‘tuning’ is always the same, once you have set the key each position in the scale is the same - 1st is forward, fifth is right for instance. Much like on a traditional instrument, players improve through muscle memory. This mapping allowed us to devise a robust notation system called Arrownotes which works on colours and shapes and reduces the barriers to reading traditional notation.

  • Our instrument has enabled many young people to perform music who were otherwise offered limited options. As part of the Able Orchestra, CMPSR was used by 10 disabled young musicians to perform alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Halle Orchestra playing live as part of a collaboration for The Association of British Orchestras conference.
    One of the first users of CMPSR, a young disabled musician called Jess Fisher, now has a building career including performances for BBC Introducing and collaborations with the Halle Orchestra and bands like Alt.Blk.Era - CMPSR is her instrument and she writes and performs all of her music using it.

  • You can connect to any app, software or hardware that is MIDI enabled over Bluetooth or USB C

  • CMPSR:Move came to market in 2023 and we have sold 583 units, predominantly into education where our music toolkit (CMPSR instrument, Arrownotes, supporting audio content) holds a lot of value - £299 per unit.
    We are working with Bandlab, Bitwig and Steinberg to build traction in the consumer space through targeted video content.
    CMPSR: Swipe is currently going through app store approval for iOS and will be coming to android, MacOS and Windows in the near future. Upon release we will use a freemium model to give access to useful features and content for free and offer paid subscriptions (£1.99 per month initially) to access deeper functionality such as chord shapes, arpeggiator patterns, additional keys, external MIDI control etc. as well as audio content in the form of loops, samples and pre-prepared projects.
    Our interface has huge licensing opportunities across the music creation space, instead of pressing CMD+K on Logic to use a QWERTY keyboard to control a piano keybed you’ll be able to access our interface and use the QWERTY keyboard to play complex chords and expressive melodies.

  • We will continue to grow sales of our hardware and software by developing brandpartnerships and influencer content but we see the big opportunity in developing a proposition for the rhythm game space where titles generating 10’s of millions of dollars every month still cannot enable engagement with pitch in any meaningful way. Even guitar hero which is now part of Fortnite cannot offer users any kind of progression to the ‘real’ world of music. The game we devise will have our interface at its core and players can take the skills they’ve developed in the game and turn them to casual or professional music apps - gamification but without the glass ceiling.
    There is also a huge opportunity to license our interface to other developers in the gaming space - EPIC games for fortnite festival or Spaceape games for Beatstar for instance.
    There are forecast to be over 1 billion musicians by 2030 and all of them are looking for fast, effective ways to sound professional. We believe, the tools our team has built which are based on years or writing and performing music at a professional level, offer the fastest route to musical success.

  • Despite advancements in technology, for nearly half a century drummers playing electronic drum sets have had to settle for rubber cymbal pads. Rubber pads don’t look like real cymbals, they don’t feel like real cymbals, and they don’t respond with all the nuance you would expect from a real cymbal. Our goal at Zildjian was to create an electronic cymbal that is virtually indistinguishable from a real acoustic cymbal, and that is exactly what we’ve done. Our revolutionary E-FAMILY cymbals look like real cymbals, play and respond like real cymbals, and feel just like real acoustic cymbals because they ARE real cymbals! Coupled with our incredible looking and sounding ALCHEM-E drums and beautifully designed, feature-filled E-VAULT drum module, the Zildjian ALCHEM-E system is the most immersive, realistic, authentic electronic drumming experience in the world.

  • Seeing some of the world’s most accomplished drummers sit down behind the kit for the first time is truly inspiring. To watch them smile, see their eyes light up, and see the creativity flow as they play with and explore the power and realism of the kit is truly inspirational and special.

  • It has both traditional 5 pin MIDI in/out and USB MIDI to be connected to control out or in with other sound modules, DAW or software applications.

  • Three complete drums kits are available right now in the US and Canada, and later this year will be available throughout the world. We are partnering with top artists, influencers, and media outlets to get the word out about ALCHEM-E as this is our biggest launch in our company’s storied 400-year history!

  • We plan to continue to update and expand the capabilities of the drum module and add to the already impressive library of sounds. We also plan to develop new add-on cymbals and drums so that drummers can build out and customize their dream drum kit setup. We have a robust innovation roadmap including expansion beyond traditional electronic percussion.
