Hi all,  I use midi files for gigging where i assign a channel for dmx lighting and one for changing my guitar patches. I would like to reduce the amount of gear I carry by recording my files to an audio format but run a midi channel in sync to operate my lighting. Can this be done relatively simple plus whats the best way to record my midi files using my pc. I use a laptop on stage running winXP (Rock solid) with a usb to midi converter. This sends all the midi data to my Karawin player, Digitech guitar processor and my midi to dmx light convertor. I realise if i can get this to work i will be using the audio out socket on the laptop, but how do I trigger the midi channel.  Any help would be greatfully accepted.  Thanks in advance,  Joe.

To record your MIDI files to mp3, you'll need to take the audio output of the last item in your chain and send it in to either a dedicated hardware mp3 recorder or the input of a laptop or pc.  Audacity is free audio editing software that you can use to record and save the mp3 files. The last version that works on Windows XP is 2.0.6. Recording back to the same laptop as your playback may or may not be easy depending on your particular machine.

As for synching lighting later on, I know there is software to do it, but I am not personally familiar with any of it.

Hi Jason, thanks for your reply. I have got windows 10 in my home PC. I’ll look into it. Thanks again. Joe.
