Is it possible to enable (by a forum admin of course) post dates on the main forum page? I think that would be helpful, especially when posts get bumped all around from spam. Some new real posts I think are not getting the attention/replies that they could be if they weren't buried in older posts. Having the dates would help make it easier to see the genuine new ones without having to click in to every post only to find out it's already 3-4 years old (or whatnot).

If you disable links on the "About me" pages, the resource will become less attractive for the spammers.
None of the legitimate forum regulars use those links anyway.

You can also go to

https://midi.org/forum/ask/

to bring you directly to the Create New Post page.

I have submitted feedback using the Contact US form about the missing button, hopefully will get a response in the next few days.

As a side note, Geoff, how come your recent replies are "grouping" beneath the item above it? I lose the ability to directly quote/reply to the replies that are like that, and it seems to be a recent thing.

Jason,

Sorry, just seen this message.

Yes, recently I tried to use the 'Comment' facility rather than add a new item. This attaches the comment to the relevant item, it does NOT seem to update the 'latest message date' data and so does not move the item. maybe it has other side effects? I'm not sure why it prevents and 'normal' replies being added to the thread, if that IS the case then this is a SERIOUS fault.

Just checked this thread, and I see that I used a Comment here, and there ARE subsequent new items, so there seems NOT to be any problem?

Geoff

Replies can be made as normal to the thread, but can not specifically be made for the replies that are "comments" instead. Literally the only thing I can do with the comment is "Delete". No reply, no quote, no up or down vote (no ban user 😉 ). So yes, seems to be another issue with the forum. It also appears that most users (myself included) do not even have the option to comment rather than reply.

I also still have not received a reply from the "Contact Us" form submission about the missing New Post button.

I think it's possible to do that because the admin is given all the control over that forum.
