June 7 marks the anniversary of the passing of Alan R. Pearlman, the visionary engineer and founder of ARP Instruments.
Pearlman founded ARP in 1969, and the company quickly became one of the most important names in the history of electronic music. Instruments such as the ARP 2500, ARP 2600 and Odyssey helped define the sound of synthesizers in studios, on stages and in film scores throughout the 1970s and beyond.
Alan Pearlman’s work helped bring synthesizers from the laboratory into the hands of musicians, producers and educators. His instruments were known for their musicality, reliability and distinctive sound, and they continue to inspire artists and instrument designers today.
On this anniversary, The MIDI Association remembers Alan R. Pearlman and celebrates his lasting contribution to electronic music.
