hi,
move me if this the wrong category.
i am developing software for 20 years and know only the basics about midi.
imagine the following situation:
- i dont have a MPE controller hardware and/or MPE receiving device.
- i want to built some fractional code for dealing with MPE input and formatting MPE output.
- when i work with midi data, i almost exclusively deal with decimal numbers.
distributing note events across channels in round robin or other fashions is nothing new for me, i do that since 20 years.
but now that there is a standard(?) for it, and more and devices seem to use it, i feel like getting compatible to it.
could someone explain me how MPE input from a controller looks like? in comparison to a normal note event or controller in traditional channel message format?
or is it the same as always and all interesting new things happen on channel 1?
Try this link to the ROLI site as a starter.

the specs pdf doesnt really eplain what i am after.
however, it seems there is no difference between the MPE voices messages and what i am doing already - except the master channel of course.
i was under the impression that the master channel is somehow required in all situations, this doesnt seem to be the case? you only use it for gobal control change if you want this?
choosing a master channel and limiting the voice numbers is something which i can leave to the user in a custom software. (i.e. if you have continuum mini, you know it can send 2 channels and receive 8... you enter these numbers into your sofware and you´re done)
hm, using italic makes the board think the message is spam.
