I'm using a Korg Triton Extreme as master keyboard to drive the Magix Samplitude 11.5 Producer on Windows 7 operating system. I've also dragged an old Yamaha DX7 Mk 1 with breath controller into commision to use with an extremely tasty saxophone sample VST set called "Saxophonia" on the Samplitude software.

I've been able to allocate the midi signals from the the breath controller so that various 'timbre' and 'colour' adjustments can be made in real-time when playing the Sax samples, and this adds a huge amount of naturalness to the sound. But here's the problem - I need to combine the midi outs from the Triton and the DX7 into one midi signal that can be recorded as one track. Simple, I thought - I'll buy the new M-Audio 2x2 Midiman 'anniversary edition', which has a merge function and currently retails at around only £35. However, what M-Audio didn't make clear was that the merge function only works as a standalone unit when it is disconnected from any host computer's operating system, which seems a pretty stupid way of (not) doing things (!) So here's the problem - how to merge the two midi signals without having to power down the computer? Can I take a 5V USB power from a mains adapter without blowing the Midiman unit up? Any help would be much appreciated.
