Hello!
I am using a Harley Benton FLX8 PRO and wish to control it using my Line 6 Helix Floor.
The FLX8 Pro sends midi out information but it is not suitable for what I would like to do,
I was wondering if it would be at all possible to mod the switcher so it can be sent MIDI commands from the Helix? If so how would I go about doing that
thanks!
If the FLX does not have any physical means to receive midi data, then there's not much you can do. You'd need to change the internal circuitry, and I assume the software in ROM, as well as provide a midi IN port. At least.
You say that the device does send midi data, but not what you want. What information CAN it send, and what data do you WANT it to send? Maybe something can receive certain data that you CAN send, and change it into something more useful that can be sent on to the original destination/target?

Hello Geoff
I just want to quickly thank you for taking the time to consider and respond to my query, thank you much appreciated.
I see, I was curious if reversing Midi out to Midi in was an accessible option via modification, but it seems from what you've said that it isn't.
The unit can send CC, CC+CC & PC commands as well as trigger commands. At the minute my Line 6 Helix receives PC commands but doesn't seem to pick up on any of the CC commands I send it via the FLX8 Pro. according to the manual CC commands change snapshot parameters on the helix
What I'd like is to operate the FLX8 as an analogue pedal loop switching system whilst simultaneously sending midi commands to the Helix changing presets and snapshots.
From the responses I've had across different forums it seems like this may not be achievable with the equipment I have.
The Helix will respond ONLY to those CC messages that it knows about. If you send a CC message that it does NOT know about, then it can do nothing with it, and will disregard it. Also, check re channels. CC messages are sent on a specific channel, the Helix may receive messages on certain channels ONLY.
There are certainly 'spare' Controllers that could be used, for example 'General Purpose' controllers. Some extra box could receive your data stream, and pass data on, but if any special controllers were seen then this data could be replaced/expanded into the extra functions you required. Of course this would make your setup more complicated. There may be something available, or you might program a laptop to do the job. It's a sort of reverse 'filter' job - a normal filter would remove certain data, you need to replace certain data. Look for 'filter replace midi data' or something like that?
