I am completely new to MIDI. I have a keyboard which is a Yamaha YPP-50 and NCH Crescendo (non-commercial) which I've used to create sheet music and audio files (mpg/wav files). I just purchased a usb to midi cable and tried connecting the keyboard to my computer (Windows 10). I hear the "connected" sound from my computer, but don't see anyway to transfer midi files from the computer to the keyboard. Can anyone help me please? Thanks!

MIDI File --> Sequencer program[1] --> MIDI cable --> keyboard

[1] millions of those available from simple "MIDI file players" to full blown "DAWs". Even Windows Media player that comes with your operating system can play MIDI files.

Here's an oldie, but goodie:

Install, Press ALT-S to enter Setup and select your MIDI Interface under output device/

Just to be pedantice, you do NOT 'transfer' the midi file from the computer to the keyboard.

You need to 'play' the midi file, using anything that can play such a file, as noted above. You need to ensure that the computer is sending the data to the USB port, it may well default to sending the data to it's own internal virtual synth and NOT to the keyboard.

Which USB/midi interface have you got. See other corresp here about the cheap ones you can get, which are NOT reliable. They sometimes seem to work, but they garble the data (or some of it).
