Hiya I am new here and new to midi.
The only use I have had is with an old Roland u220.
I am a drummer playing an acoustic kit live and I am trying to use the pads on an electric drum kit to trigger sounds on the Roland u220.
I need to create piano and string sounds. Is this possible?

I'm not familiar with the Roland u220, but if it has patches for piano and strings then you will need to configure your pads to send MIDI messages on a channel other than channel 10 to use those patches.

How configurable are your pads?

What is the manufacturer and model of your "electric drum kit"?

The manual for the U220 (if you don't already have one) is available on Roland's web site. Page 113 shows how to set the MIDI receive channel for a patch. You can, for example, edit a piano patch to receive data on channel 10, which is the channel that your drum set probably sends on.
