As part of May Is MIDI Month 2026, The MIDI Association presented a new MIDI In Music Education webinar focused on expanding access to music technology learning for students, teachers, schools, and the broader music products industry.
The webinar highlights the growing importance of MIDI as a practical teaching tool. MIDI is not just a technical standard for connecting instruments, computers, apps, and devices. It is also a powerful gateway for learning music creation, production, performance, composition, sound design, and modern digital workflows.
A major focus of the presentation is The MIDI Association’s collaboration with SAE Mexico to develop a MIDI In Music Education curriculum in both English and Spanish. The curriculum is designed to make MIDI education more accessible globally and to support educators who want to integrate music technology into existing programs. Through SAE Mexico’s relationship with Coursera, the curriculum and certification pathway are planned to be available at no charge.
The project also reflects The MIDI Association’s commitment to open, shareable education. Curriculum materials are intended to be made available under a Creative Commons license, allowing schools, universities, dealers, manufacturers, and educators to incorporate the materials into their own programs with proper attribution.
The webinar also reinforces a broader message: MIDI education works best when educators, students, manufacturers, software developers, and industry organizations collaborate. By connecting real-world music technology with structured learning materials, The MIDI Association hopes to help more people understand how MIDI supports creativity across genres, devices, platforms, and learning environments.
For teachers, the initiative offers a pathway to bring contemporary music technology into the classroom. For students, it opens the door to creative careers in music production, performance, audio, software, media, and interactive entertainment. For the industry, it helps build a more informed and diverse next generation of MIDI users and developers.
