Product Description

Anukari is a 3D physical-modeling synthesizer and effect where the instrument itself is a physics simulation you build in a modular way. Drag masses, springs, mallets, bows, plectrums, and microphones into a 3D scene.

Anukari simulates the entire system at audio rate, so the vibrations you hear are literally the vibrations you see. Each of up to 16 voices of polyphony is a complete, independent copy of your physical instrument, pitched by dilating time inside its own physics “pocket universe.”

Every physical parameter can be modulated by MPE gestures, MIDI CCs, LFOs, MIDI-triggered envelopes, and DAW automation, so playing Anukari feels like touching a resonating object rather than operating an abstraction. It ships as a VST3/AU/AAX plugin and standalone app for Windows and macOS (with experimental Linux support), with a free demo at anukari.com.


How It’s Innovative

Anukari’s 3D physics system lets you design sounds by building physics instruments, something like digital luthiery. Because it simulates the movement of all the physical components in the system in real time, every aspect of the shape and structure contributes to the sound. Often surprising and unpredictable, Anukari is a tool for exploration.

Most Inspiring Use Cases

Playful exploration. One of my favorite things is watching a new Anukari user simply add an extra mass and spring to the default preset. The first time they play a note, and see the mass they added flail about chaotically, it never fails to put a smile on their face.

Expansion Plans

For the foreseeable future, I plan to release updates to Anukari 1.x free to all users. The big projects I’m working on right now include a “hints” system to help new users learn how to build instruments much more intuitively, as well as a host of new physics features new spring parameters such as nonlinearity, better physics simulation accuracy, and more.

Commercialization

Anukari is fully commercialized. After a year-long open paid beta, version 1.0 shipped in June 2026. It is sold direct at anukari.com for an introductory $99 (regular $149), with a free demo, as VST3/AU/AAX and standalone for Windows, macOS, and Linux (experimental).

The 1.0 release included massive performance and stability improvements, support for Intel Macs, and a host of new features including 20+ audio effects objects that can be connected in arbitrary configurations, including looping processed audio back into the physics system. Other new features for 1.0 include a built-in video recording system, custom post-processing visual shaders, an on-screen MIDI keyboard, MTS-ESP microtuning, drag-and-drop macros, and more.
