Trying to record beats from alesis sr18 via midi into live 9 with no success, running alesis as slave into firewire interface, nothing, ran alesis as slave into impulse 49 controller to record into live 9, still nothing. Ran setups on alesis and impulse with no luck, any ideas I haven't thought of?

I don't have a SR18, but a quick search of the user manual indicates that it has this capability disabled by default. You need to activate MIDI OUT for the pad buttons/pattern/sequences. Please refer to p.46 of the manual.
