Hello. I am trying to "Factory Restore" a MIDI guitar processor from the 80s called a Roland GP-8 with a .mid file. I am doing everything the manual says to do, and I have done that with two separate GP-8s but nothing happens. I have used software on both Mac and PC, but I am getting nothing. The cable lights up when the data is transferred, but the processor doesn't do what it's supposed to. I am at the end of my rope! Thanks.

I did not find anything about "Factory Restore" in the manual.

What exactly are you trying to send to it, and what do you expect to happen?

You are correct. The only way to factory restore it is to run a ".mid factory restore" file right into it. Here is more info on that: http://www.axecentral.com/roland-gp-8-restore-factory-presets-10040410.html

The MIDI in does work correctly on my unit as I have managed to get a footswitch to control it. I am doing something wrong with the software and I don't know what. Here is another example of something like this, only with hardware: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ak9kjaQFEYM Thanks.

That .mid file looks correct.

Does "nothing happens" mean that the display does not even show "Ld"?

Does a bulk dump (GP-8 to PC) work? Does that result in the same amount of data as in your .mid file?
