Hello!

I have a Roland Fantom FA-76, and I am having some MIDI difficulty.

I am able to transfer Sys Ex files (bulk dump, individual patches) to my computer. Which is great!

But I have not been able to send those same files back to the keyboard. I am stumped on how to get the Roland to receive files from the computer.

I have a Mio iConnectivity 1 to 1 interface hooking the Roland up to my Mac. I am using the SysEx Librarian to move the files.

If anyone has some tips on getting this to work, I would love to hear all about it.

Thanks very much.

I don't have a Fantom, but here are some tips I found in the manuals:

In Menu, System Edit, MIDI, maybe you may need to set "Exclusive Protect" OFF and/or "Rx Exclusive" ON? Page 183 of the Owner's Manual says Exclusive Protect prevents incoming System Exclusive messages from rewriting user memory settings and Rx Exclusive specifies whether System Exclusive messages will be received.

In the Questions and Answers booklet, page 12 has a question about "Exclusive messages are not received" which also suggests making sure the Device ID setting (in the same menu as above) matches the Device ID in the incoming message. But in your case, the Device ID probably hasn't changed since you dumped the data.

That's a great point, thank you! I was experimenting with that, and you're right -- if the Exclusive Protect is ON, nothing comes in.

I found something else that makes a big difference: If I'm transferring a patch or multi from the computer, the keyboard can not be on the same bank slot as the incoming data at the time of the transfer. It won't go. But if the keyboard is set to a different bank slot, the data arrives as you would expect.

More tests today on what data transfers are possible -- and what steps are needed to make it happen!

Thank you.
