Hi all. Newbie here but with 30 odd years of mild MIDI use.
I have an 80s synthpop tribute band and am using Cakewalk Sonar Producer v8.3.1 as a live DAW, with Setlists of songs loaded in sequence to play-on-press.
Outboard of this my musical partner and I have Roland FA-06 and 07 workstations linked by USB to my laptop (Windows 10 Home), but for real fun I have a Roland AX-Synth and he has an Roland AX-Edge. The Edge has Bluetooth capability and for the older AX-Synth, I have bought a Quinnico Mi.1 BLE MIDI transmitter and receiver. I have also installed the MIDIBerry application.
What I want to do is transmit PC messages to our keytars from dedicated MIDI tracks in Sonar. As we load the tracks, across go the PC signals and we aren't faced with scrolling through soundbanks and patches.
Here's the problem: When I open Sonar, the Mi.1 doesn't appear as a MIDI IN/OUT option. I can't assign MIDI tracks to it. The Mi.1 does appear in the Windows/Settings and works okay with MIDIBerry on it's own.
What is MIDIBerry/Windows 10 seeing that Sonar isn't?

The technical answer is that Sonar is a traditional/"vintage" Win32 application, and MIDIberry is a modern UWP/Microsoft Store application. Which I guess it's not a very useful answer for you. Good news are that a workaround is documented in the MIDIberry product description: "f you want to use DAW or software instruments, use virtual MIDI port application such as loopMIDI."

I have the Windows update 1903 (so am assuming this is more than the anniversary one?)
I have MIDI Loop installed and the MIDI Berry app.
The MIDI Berry and MIDI Loop can 'see' each other and Cakewalk Sonar (it's the 64 Bit version) can only see the MIDI Loop. When I send a PC message to the AX Synth, nothing happens
Any ideas? It seems one software component isn't talking to another in the protocol needed.

Cakewalk Sonar (and Cakewalk by BandLab) support UWP MIDI, but you need to explicitly choose to use it in Preferences.

I use SONAR and mi.1. I recommend installing the newest BandLab Cakewalk too.
If that is difficult, I suggest using MIDIberry-IO mi.1. It supports bi-directional communication, unlike MIDIberry.
To use it, you need to add two virtual MIDI ports using loopMIDI.

I have confirmed that it works properly with SONAR Producer v8.5. I hope that Sonar Producer v8.3.1 will also work.
