Guitar to sheet music via midi

I have this vision of purchasing a guitar with midi capability, then playing an original tune into piece of software that supports midi such as Cakewalk by bandlab. After the recording I would have a midi file of my original work. That midi file could then be loaded into software that converts midi to an actual sheet music score. And walah, I would have printable sheet music for my original score complete with the guitar tab for it. Is this feasible? Has anyone actually done it, and how well did it work?

Thanks

Yes. That's one of the many uses for MIDI recording. You can generate sheet music (with Tabs if you want) within Cakewalk.

There are other packages that will do the same, I think that you can use Anvil as well.

I see that the score shown above seems to be somewhat of a mess. Don't worry about this, if you've never seen this sort of thing before. This is due to the set (or) default timing of the midi system NOT being matched by the timing of the person playing. Many systems have facilities to adjust for this within the software, and get the notes looking tidy compared to the bars, but you may need to experiment yo get it 100%

Other way to do it, if you are on macOS is to use Logic Pro 9 or X, it has sheet preview and export for MIDI sequences. It is called Score Editor. After setting correct tempo and measure you could achieve the goal. I'm linking article explaining basics of Logic Score Editor
