Mystrix 2 Smart Controller

Elevator Pitch

Mystrix 2 Smart Controller

Mystrix is an expressive, hackable, portable smart MIDI controller combining MPE, touch, motion, sequencing, and community customizable software into one flexible creative platform

Product Description

Mystrix 2 is a universal musical interface designed as a complete hardware and software platform.

It combines an expressive 8×8 MPE grid, touch strips, motion control, flexible MIDI connectivity, and powerful software features in one compact device.

Rather than defining one fixed workflow, Mystrix 2 can become different instruments, controllers, sequencers, and MIDI utilities through applications. Its open, community-hackable software platform allows new musical ideas and workflows to be created long after the hardware ships.

How It’s Innovative

Mystrix 2 is designed as a universal musical platform across interaction, software, and connectivity.

Its expressive grid, touch strips, and motion sensing provide a flexible physical interface. On top of that, our open platform, Matrix OS, allows the same hardware to become different instruments and tools through community-hackable applications.

Its modular I/O architecture extends the same idea to connectivity: three USB-C ports can each operate as either USB Host or USB Device, while adapters can transform them into traditional MIDI or CV interfaces. Mystrix 2 also includes an internal battery for wireless and standalone operation.

Together, these elements make Mystrix 2 a complete system that can adapt to different musicians, workflows, and setups without requiring different hardware, replacing multiple traditional devices with a single flexible & portable unit.

Most Inspiring Use Cases

The most inspiring use of Mystrix is seeing the same device become completely different musical tools for different people.

With the original Mystrix, which we have shipped and supported for the past three years, users have already created their own experimental sequencers, MIDI effects, visualizers, and other applications through the user application system. These creative and unexpected use cases are some of the most inspiring outcomes for us.

That openness remains one of the most important parts of Mystrix 2, but it is also a complete instrument out of the box. Its first-party applications include an easy-to-use sequencer, live performance effects, a strum interface using the touch strip, multilayer customizable controls, and other creative performance tools that many users already enjoy.

What inspires us most is that Mystrix can be both immediately useful as a finished musical instrument and open enough for users to reshape it into something entirely their own.

Expansion Plans

If Mystrix 2 is successful, we plan to expand the platform into controllers of different sizes, formats, and use cases.

These future products will share the same open software platform and flexible connectivity architecture, allowing applications, workflows, and accessories to work across a broader ecosystem.

We also plan to develop additional modular I/O adapters and other accessories around the platform, creating a family of interoperable hardware rather than a single standalone product.

Commercialization

Mystrix 2 is currently in the final pre-production testing stage.

We plan to launch a Kickstarter campaign toward the end of 2026, followed by full production and commercial availability after the campaign.
