Grid

Product Description

Grid

Grid tries to redefine the relationship between human intent and digital creation. It’s not just a controller; it’s a modular MIDI computer ecosystem engineered for creative sovereignty. Built with open-source hardware, firmware and software, Grid invites users not to only use but to shape the instrument itself. Every knob, encoder, button and fader is part of a customizable architecture, where form follows workflow, and not the other way around.

What makes Grid truly innovative is its adaptive modularity. With magnetically connecting modules, creators compose their own physical interface like musical blocks snapping together velocity and pressure sensitive buttons, LED assisted encoders, detent or smooth potentiometers and faders. This physical-digital fluidity empowers artists, coders, and technologists alike to prototype, iterate, and perform – all on the same rig.

At the software level, Grid’s LUA scripting engine and Profile Cloud introduce an entirely new tier of control. From drag-and-drop mappings to full programmatic logic, users can design smart workflows that can evolve alongside them. Unlike fixed surface controllers, Grid is capable of constantly changing. New modules can be introduced into existing setups to expand the physical control surface while community-built profiles sync with a click of a button. Firmware is hackable by design.

In a landscape of one-size-fit-all solutions, Grid stands apart as a platform of ongoing innovation.

How It’s Innovative

Grid is bringing a new approach to MIDI, offering complete freedom as unlike many controllers, the hardware imposes little to no restrictions. Users can define themselves what messages are sent and how the device reacts to those, unlocking the full potential of MIDI protocol. This level of openness and flexibility is rare, making Grid a unique and powerful tool for digital creatives.

Most Inspiring Use Cases

Grid’s most inspiring use cases come straight from the hands of musicians who push it beyond the expected. Many of the most exciting Grid use cases were not part of our original roadmap. They have since become our DNA.

We’ve seen artists transform it into a modular-synth expander, pianists have used it to trigger multi-layered ambient textures and one performer even mounted Grid modules onto a custom keytar body, enabling real-time filter sweeps and clip launching while roaming the stage. In live sets Grid becomes a looping brain and lighting controller, with faders mapped to DMX values and buttons triggering Ableton scenes. In contemporary classical performance, composers have used Grid to sequence algorithmic MIDI structures, controlling polyrhythmic patterns with custom LUA scripts.

From intimate solo exhibitions to large-scale multimedia shows, Grid proves time and again that it does more than respond to creative needs; it becomes embedded in the artistic fabric itself.

Expansion Plans

With our latest new product from the Grid family, VSN1, module with a screen, we started our expansion to creative workflows beyond music production. However, this doesn’t put a stop in our efforts to continue growing in the music industry. We’ve recently introduced a new and improved line of our Grid modular controllers, being one of the firsts to integrate velocity- and pressure-sensitive Gatheron HE hall effect technology in our hardware. Currently, we’re focusing on increasing the number of DAW integrations to enhance the Plug & Play experience. We’re also working on a more accessible version of our Editor software, making configuration easier for users who prefer simple, no-code setup options.

Commercialization

Grid is currently available directly on our website or from our retail and distribution partners across Europe and the US. We’ve already shipped more than 8000 modules to +4500 users. Our current commercialization plans focus on enhancing our physical presence through expanding into retail spaces, giving an opportunity for users to encounter with Grid physically before purchasing. We’d also like to officially enter other creative markets, firstly photography and videography, for this we’ve recently designed a successful Kickstarter campaign that reached its goal within 20 minutes. Now we’re working on online campaigns and focused communication to target photographers and videographers.
