Phylo

Elevator Pitch

Phylo

A “concept DAW” for the creation of music as code for the web, with generative features and MIDI2.0.

Product Description

Phylo is built for artists who want to create music that can evolve.
Artists can create generative or non-generative compositions and export them to the web.
The duration of a composition can be set by the artist and broken down into movements. They can be synced to the end user’s system clock.
Because we’re exporting code, compositions are no longer static files and can updated whenever the artist wants to.

Phylo includes a modular instrument build which incorporates MIDI2.0.
Along side the main Phylo DAW app, I have created a virtual controller, specifically for use with the DAW, to test MIDI2.0.
The artist can create controller mapping pages for their modular devices and then easily access them on the controller.
The pages can be arranged however the artist deems fit.

How It’s Innovative

Due to the lack of MIDI2.0 hardware available, it became necessary to create a virtual controller with a design that could be well incorporated into the DAW but also be flexible enough for use with other applications.

The DAW works in a way that would be familiar but different to other DAWs. So the learning curve for it wouldn’t be huge if coming from another DAW.

Exporting generative music as code offers possibilities in not just music for listeners, but also film, games and art installations.

Additionally, I am thinking about ways to be able to provide listeners with their own unique wav of flac files generated via the exported code.

Most Inspiring Use Cases

This is all aspirational, but I would love for artists to be able use their generative compositions as a way of creating unique music that is an alternative to streaming playlists.

Expansion Plans

Still under heavy development, not feature locked.

Commercialization

None at the moment. This is very much a prototype concept, built with AI and I do not want to take an AI created codebase to market.

If I were to commercialize this, then I would look for developers to handle the project.
