Midulate Mini

Midulate Mini is a MIDI modulation controller that fits discretely on a pedalboard and generates outbound CC messages that continuously vary a pedal’s parameters over time.

It has six configurable effects based around familiar shapes such as sinusoidal waves, triangle waves and random patterns. There are three selectable time bases (internal BPM, incoming MIDI clock, or free-running), along with different connection and configuration options to suit various use cases.

The interface is designed to encourage experimentation and creativity through familiar controls and visual feedback.

Midulate Mini adds a time-based dimension to any effect that supports MIDI. This allows effects to be repurposed in imaginative and interesting ways. For example, a low-pass filter can be made to sound like a tremolo.

The editor is built around the concept of a pedalboard, except the effects generate CC messages that are applied to other audio effect parameters. This familiar interface combined with simple controls and visual feedback allows for easy tuning of these modulations in creative and powerful ways.

Midulate Mini also supports mapping incoming CC messages to its own parameters and features a built-in loop-back allowing it to modulate its own parameters just like any other effect. This can create continually changing sounds that shift and move organically.

Whilst it is capable of deep complicated modulations, some of the best uses of Midulate Mini are just to add a little “special sauce” to an already beautiful effect.

For example, an ambient reverb can grow and bloom over the course of 4 bars or two different delays can mix in and out of each other. Little elements of randomness can elevate an effect with a touch of organic unpredictability, whilst a gentle pulse on an EQ or reverb can inject a subtle sense of motion into an otherwise static effect.
