MIDIWeb unlocks browser-based music making on Apple devices by connecting WebMIDI tools with real musical hardware. Designed for iOS, visionOS and macOS, it gives musicians, educators and developers a focused way to explore web instruments, synth utilities, MIDI controllers, learning tools and emerging MIDI 2.0 workflows.


How It’s Innovative

MIDIWeb is innovative because it reframes the web browser as a serious musical instrument and creative platform.

It bridges WebMIDI, Apple’s native MIDI ecosystem, hardware instruments, virtual MIDI routing, and browser-based music tools into one focused experience. This unlocks a class of creative and educational web apps that are otherwise difficult or impossible to use properly on Apple devices.

On visionOS, it includes a virtual Musical Typing keyboard experience (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKdxwCYMzGE).
On iOS/macOS Musical typing is available with MPE touch-drag.
It also contains a built-in ‘MIDI Player’ mode, which recently added experimental support for the upcoming MIDI 2.0 clip playback and authoring.

Expansion Plans

MIDIWeb’s expansion plans are centred on becoming a browser for music technology, supporting the next wave of MIDI devices, tools and creative web experiences.

A key area of development is MIDI 2.0, including MIDI Capability Inquiry, device discovery, profile/property exchange, diagnostics and educational demonstrations that help users understand what newer MIDI hardware can do. MIDIWeb can become a practical bridge between emerging MIDI 2.0 devices, Apple platforms and browser-based music tools.

We’re also getting ready for the future of spatial computing experiences, expanding the current visionOS virtual musical typing experiences to other WebXR + WebMIDI hybrid experiences.

Commercialization

The app is designed to be an accessible, ‘Always Free’ core experience that helps musicians, educators, developers and hardware users explore WebMIDI tools on Apple devices. Future revenue may come from an optional ‘Pro’ tier, adding advanced features such as enhanced routing, performance modes, MIDI monitoring, device diagnostics and MIDI 2.0-focused tools.

As more MIDI 2.0 devices enter the market, MIDIWeb aims to become a useful companion for testing, learning, demonstrating and exploring these new capabilities. We also see potential for partnerships with hardware manufacturers, educators and web music developers who want their instruments, controllers, utilities and learning tools to work well in browser-based environments.

Our goal is not to lock users into a closed ecosystem, but to support an open, future-facing MIDI platform that can remain available, maintained and relevant as music technology evolves.
