Bionic and the Wires

Bionic and the Wires is a living MIDI art system where plants and fungi generate music and movement through their bio‑electrical signals. Using bionic arms and biosonification technology, these organisms directly control instruments and create visual artworks. The project reveals the hidden intelligence of non‑human life, challenges human‑centric ideas of creativity, and makes complex ecological science accessible through performance. Our performances feature mushrooms and plants directly controlling instruments and even creating visual art.

Bionic and the Wires is innovative because for the first time it turns plants and fungi into active creators. Using biosonification devices and bionic arms, the project converts real‑time bio‑electrical signals into MIDI, allowing non‑human organisms to directly control instruments and make visual art. This goes beyond traditional bio‑art by giving living organisms agency in the creative process, challenging human‑centric ideas of intelligence and authorship.
