AIR

Elevator Pitch

AIR

AIR delivers intuitive MIDI and CV control with a simple gesture-based interface—housed in natural wood for a seamless blend of form and function.

Product Description

AIR

AIR brings intuitive control to your music-making with infrared proximity detection, allowing you to manipulate your favourite synth parameters—via both MIDI and CV—using nothing more than a wave of your hand. A bright onboard LED meter provides clear visual feedback of your parameter levels, whether you’re in the studio or performing live. With a simple gesture, you can even lock in your settings on the fly. Housed in a beautifully crafted, bespoke wooden enclosure, AIR isn’t just a controller—it’s a unique piece of music technology.

How It’s Innovative

Gesture-based controllers aren’t new, but AIR introduces meaningful innovation through its focus on simplicity, usability, and expressive design. Every function—whether it’s real-time parameter modulation, locking in a value, or configuring MIDI channels and CC settings—can be performed with just one hand, leaving the other free for playing, tweaking, or performing. This hands-free, streamlined control approach sets AIR apart, making it as intuitive as it is powerful.

Clear visual feedback via the onboard LED meter provides immediate, no-nonsense indication of parameter levels, from zero to full scale—ideal for both studio and live environments.

Even the housing reflects innovation. Crafted from natural wood, AIR’s bespoke enclosure brings warmth and individuality to a field often dominated by cold, utilitarian metal boxes. It’s not just a controller—it’s an instrument in its own right, designed to inspire.

Most Inspiring Use Cases

Since AIR isn’t commercially available yet, it hasn’t seen any use out in the field or in the hands of artists and performers. The product is still very much in development but I will look forward to seeing it the hands of fellow creatives to see how they put it to use.

Expansion Plans

Expansion will occur organically. I already have ideas for a version 2 of AIR which includes BoM reduction, improvements and brand new features. Additionally, I have embryonic ideas for entirely new products that also fit within the Skapa Sound ethos, so I plan to slowly grow the product portfolio.

Commercialization

Whilst I develop AIR, I plan to continue building interest in the community and grow my mailing list. AIR has already had articles featured on Synthtopia and rekkerd.org and maybe more interest can be garnered through the MIDI Innovation Awards. I also plan to attend a few UK based synthesiser shows to promote my brand and the product. Additionally, I know a number of YouTube producers who have offered to promote AIR on their channels. Since I am a one-man-band, I plan to start small and grow organically.
