Digitaize – Transforming strings with the power of MIDI

Digitaize takes a completely new approach to augmenting acoustic instruments. This innovative technology uses a unique sensor system to acquire real-time playing data from musical instruments. In this demonstration, the Digitaize Module uses software instruments from Spectrasonics, Moog, and Audio Modeling, a hardware from CME and Roland to showcase its versatility.

Nicholas Coleman, Product Specialist at Digitaize by C.Bechstein Digital is going to showcase this game changing innovation and highlight some of the unique creative possibilities that it enables.

The Digitaize Module and sensor seamlessly integrate with the acoustic instrument, achieving an aesthetically harmonious symbiosis with its acoustic body. The focus is on a non-invasive design, which in no way impairs either the playing feel or the sound of the instrument. To achieve this, any contact with the body of the instrument was avoided and care was taken to minimise the contact surface with the instrument. The Digitaize module sits exactly between the fingerboard and the bridge and looks like a natural extension of the fingerboard. The module is connected magnetically with a link that forms the bridge between the module and the sensor.

This system can be easily mounted on any string instrument (4 or 5-stringed violin, viola, or cello). The module has two built-in microphones (a contact microphone for the vibration and an air microphone for the sound), a gyroscope, and an accelerometer to detect the movement of the instrument, as well as a haptic sensor to detect the finger position.

Experience the next level of instrument augmentation in a fun and engaging way.
