EM-OMEGA
Product Description
EM-OMEGA is a movement-driven interactive sonic installation from Entropy Music. At its centre is a handheld sphere carrying capacitive touch, infrared and gyroscope sensors. It senses how a participant touches, rotates, moves, holds and approaches it, and translates those interactions into MIDI sequences and real-time musical parameters. The same movements are sent as OSC to software such as TouchDesigner, so sound and responsive visuals are shaped together.
The installation reverses the usual relationship between movement and music: instead of the body following the music, the music follows the body. There is no conventional musical interface. The body becomes the interface, movement becomes compositional information, and sound emerges from the relationship between participant and installation.
How It’s Innovative
Most MIDI interfaces are built around established forms of musical control — keys, pads, knobs, faders. EM-OMEGA treats body movement and spatial interaction as its primary control language instead.
Touch, orientation, motion and proximity are not mapped one-to-one onto single parameters. Several kinds of physical interaction combine to shape musical sequences, dynamics, structure and audiovisual response in real time, which makes MIDI part of a larger interactive environment rather than a control protocol between devices.
In a conventional dance performance, choreography follows an existing musical timeline. EM-OMEGA reverses that. A rotation, a change of orientation, a move through space, a touch on the surface or a change in proximity all become compositional input, and MIDI becomes a bridge between body, space, sound, visual media and real-time interaction.
Most Inspiring Use Cases
Live performance shows EM-OMEGA at its most compelling. In 2026 it was used in the collaborative performance 《声命体》, where professional dancers worked the interactive sphere directly into the choreography. They were not following a fixed score: their physical interaction with the installation generated the sound heard during the performance, and that sound and its visuals became the environment they kept responding to — a continuous loop of body → installation → sound / visual → body. The submission video documents this performance.

Away from the stage, EM-OMEGA works as a participatory installation in exhibitions, museums, festivals and public spaces. Visitors need no musical training and no instructions; touching, rotating, carrying and moving the sphere is enough to shape the sound. Several spheres and several participants can share one space, so collective movement shapes a shared audiovisual environment.
Expansion Plans
The next stage is to turn the installation into a more flexible platform for movement-driven sound and visuals. The main focus is the relationship between gesture and response: combining touch, orientation, acceleration, movement and proximity data more intelligently, so the work stays intuitive for a first-time visitor while giving dancers and professional performers more expressive depth.
A configurable mapping system is the second priority, letting artists and installation designers define how each gesture becomes MIDI notes, MIDI CC, sequences, OSC data, visual parameters or lighting, so the same system can take on a different identity in each artistic context.
Beyond that comes multi-object and multi-participant interaction: several EM-OMEGA spheres in one installation, with multiple bodies collectively shaping the same sound and visual environment. The long-term aim is an adaptable installation system that choreographers, artists, museums, festivals and interactive experience designers can reinterpret.
Commercialization
EM-OMEGA is an artistic and interactive installation system rather than a conventional consumer MIDI product. The first stage of commercialization is project-based: installations, commissions, exhibitions and collaborations with cultural and creative organisations — museums, art festivals, performance venues, dance companies, immersive exhibitions, public installations and branded interactive experiences.
Entropy Music supplies EM-OMEGA as a modular system adapted to each space, interaction concept and sonic environment, which also lets the hardware and interaction design keep evolving through real deployments. As the system matures, a more standardised version could follow for artists and institutions that want to build their own movement-driven installations on configurable MIDI and OSC mappings. The aim is not to sell a spherical controller, but to build a reusable installation platform in which movement, space, sound and visual media form one connected system through MIDI and OSC.
