Elevator Pitch

AptiPlay 8P

AptiPlay transforms simple switches and adaptive controls into a powerful musical instrument, giving people with mobility challenges a new way to create and perform music.

Product Description

AptiPlay is a MIDI 2.0 music controller designed to help people with mobility challenges create and perform music without requiring traditional playing techniques. Connect up to eight switches, buttons, levers, or other compatible controls, and AptiPlay converts their actions into MIDI commands.

Melodic Mode makes playing melodies simple and intuitive. Inputs 1–7 play the notes of a selected diatonic scale, while Input 8 acts like a Shift or Octave key, moving those notes up one octave. Users can choose from 12 musical keys and six octave ranges covering the piano’s range, with advanced users able to create their own scales.

Multi-trigger Mode provides greater flexibility, allowing inputs to be assigned to many different types of MIDI messages, notes, chords, sequences, and variable values.

AptiPlay works with a wide variety of commercially available adaptive switches, including any controls designed for Microsoft’s assistive gaming ecosystem. Custom and 3D-printed switches can also be used to meet individual needs.

With standard MIDI 1.0 and MIDI 2.0 connectivity, AptiPlay can integrate with computers, synthesizers, sound modules, and other MIDI-compatible equipment.

AptiPlay adapts to the musician—not the other way around.

How It’s Innovative

1. This is the worlds first MIDI controller designed to repurpose simple switches designed for accessible gaming controllers. It allows anyone, able-bodied or otherwise, to build a custom MIDI controller. 2. It supports both MIDI 1.0 and MIDI 2.0 output. 3. This is also the world’s first MIDI controller to feature a Network MIDI 2.0 connection.

Most Inspiring Use Cases

We only have a few prototypes in use. But the most inspiring use will be enabling users with limited mobility to perform and record their own musical input.

Expansion Plans

We will release this with 2 modes as described above. But we have plans for several more modes through easy firmware updates.

Commercialization

We are still adding a for more enhancements to the hardware and developing the configuration software. We hope to have the first products available for sale in early 2027.
