Pipo Interfaces

Product Description

Pipo Interfaces

Pipo simplify the connection between people, physical objects, and digital creation by turning sensors into wireless MIDI devices in seconds.
Meant for building installations, interfaces, augment performances or explore alternatives forms of midi control and expression, these new tools open a new approach to expressive real-time control for artists, audiovisual creatives and educators.
It takes the form of a family of small embeddable wireless devices, making accessible advanced sensing capability to non-technical people.
Pipo let you turn motion, distance, touch, and much more into open custom controllers easily.

How It’s Innovative

By making advanced sensing tools accessible and easy to use by most, this project empowers creatives and non-technical people to experiment with expressive control or build their own custom interfaces in an easy and reliable fashion.
Indeed, while Arduino has lowered the barrier between music and real-time interaction, it still requires advanced technical skills. This project is about breaking technical barriers and providing people new ways to interact, control or create.

Most Inspiring Use Cases

Experimentation performed during the Oulu Dance Hack brought many inspiring use.
One of the highlight was when dancers connected to the work of audiovisual creatives using Pipo Motion. They could truly interact with real-time generative graphics projected on the stage, bringing an additional dimension into the performance.

Expansion Plans

The vision is to expand the family of Pipo modules with more sensor types as well as output modules.
This will entirely depend on the result of the crowdfunding campaign.
Until now, I developed Pipo by myself and beta testers.

Commercialization

The project is currently in a pre-order crowdfunding on CrowdSupply, a platform for Open Source Electronics.
