ShowMIDI

ShowMIDI is a multi-platform GUI application to effortlessly visualize MIDI activity.

This application fills a void in the available MIDI monitoring solutions. Instead of wading through logs of MIDI messages to correlate relevant ones and identify what is happening, ShowMIDI visualizes the current activity and hides what you don't care about anymore. It provides you with a real-time glanceable view of all MIDI activity on your computer.

To use it, simply double-click the application to launch it or use it as a plugin in a DAW.

To pause the MIDI data stream, press the spacebar, to un-pause, press it again.

The plugin versions can be used in any DAW that supports MIDI effect plugins. Some plugin formats, like VST3, might filter out certain MIDI messages and not present a fully accurate view.

ShowMIDI ships with a handful of themes, more will be added in the future.

You can edit, create and save them yourself in the application.

ShowMIDI is designed for immediate display of MIDI messages without having to wade through logs. For decades we've assumed that MIDI loggers are how to deal with MIDI data streams. ShowMIDI instead organizes everything in hierarchical buckets, and automatically presents them in the way that matters to you as a human. You can leave ShowMIDI running while using any MIDI product and at a glance you'll always see the messages that are pertinent to you at that time. Wading through MIDI messages in a log is almost never necessary anymore.

Perusing MIDI messages used to be a tedious endeavor due to having to manually correlated messages in MIDI message logs. ShowMIDI exposes MIDI data for humans so that we can focus on being creative while also seeing exactly what is happening to the MIDI data stream.
