I work at a company that plans to produce a USB-MIDI device. I've read scattered over multiple sources that Manufacturer MIDI ID may be useful for reserving SysexesID. Is it just for avoiding SysexId collision or does it have a legal part too ? Is there any document that summarizes all the variables for applying or renewing such ID ?
I need it to discuss with the money team about what to do with all of this.

Avoiding SysEx collisions is the only purpose of the manufacturer ID. You do not need it if you do not define your own SysEx messages.
