I've heard it's a multi-channel audio interface that uses a Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA chip. This FPGA chip is used to implement digital clock management and audio processing functions. Is there a specific model chip used? I'd like to try to replace such a chip to see if there is a better effect.

FPGAs must be programmed. It is that proprietary programming that you would have to change.
